Ballina Logistics and Storage Limited was acquired by IWT in 2012. The acquisition completes the last piece of the transport link with our own last/first mile transport solution. BL&S provides a 24/7 operation to support our client base of which many are Multinationals working around the clock. BL&S is on hand to support our daily rail service from Dublin Port to Ballina and return to Dublin.

We are conveniently located adjacent to the railhead in Ballina, Co Mayo with a throughput of 25,000 TEU per annum and growing. IWT currently operate 10 trains per week Dublin-Ballina-Dublin which enables exporters in the West of Ireland to gain access to international markets in a competitive and environmentally friendly manner. IWT’s rail service reduces Co2 emissions by 5500 tonnes per annum, our service removes 11,000 trucks journeys from the roads annually and 11 million road kilometres are saved per annum. To date we have completed over 3500 trains.

In short 75% Co2 emissions are saved with every unit we rail as opposed to transport by road and have done so since 2011.

The site operates primarily as an inland container storage depot with a capacity to store upwards of 200 laden or empty containers, along with the facilities to provide container insulation, monitoring service and repairs. We have made significant financial investments in this facility in people, training, heavy lift equipment for lifting laden and empty containers, and a wide variety of equipment from road trailers to tanks trailers, sliders/slopers/tipping chassis etc.
